Red Wine Sangria

Young&Brave.jpg

Happy Hump Day loves! How are you all doing? I am at that part of the semester where assignments have piled up and are due, so I am spending most of my time studying and researching.

For those of you who are new, my name is Wambui Kogi and I am a wino! I more often than not have a good bottle of red or rosΓ© wine nearby. I was in South Africa recently and I can honestly picture myself living there already. You can get a great bottle of wine for 30-100 Rand, which is approximately Ksh.300-1000/-, key word being great! How amazing is that? I could literally create my own little cellar for collector’s wine like a pro!

Thoughts Become Things!

Unfortunately, due to the Nakumatt crisis, I am not as spoilt for choice as I initially was in terms of wine selection because their shelves are empty and they have not restocked their wine. I therefore had to settle for a bottle of Mohan’s, which is a natural sweet red wine. I wanted to have it chilled so I simply chopped up a few fruits, poured in my wine and let them merge and blend their flavors in the fridge overnight. This, my loves, is what we call Sangria. It is basically a fruity wine punch that traditionally originates from Spain but is appreciated world over. Some people choose to add other alcoholic bases to their sangria such as rum, vodka, gin or brandy but I prefer not to because I feel like doing so ruins the wine flavor. However, feel free to add some to yours if it suits your preference.

Sangria is a great choice for when entertaining guests for dinner or Sunday brunch. I hope that you try it out and enjoy! πŸ™‚

P.s: I got the jar from Mr. Price Home in Sandton. If you are sleeping on them, you better wake up love!

Congratulations to all those who have graduated or are graduating this week! You guys are the real MVP’s and I personally cannot wait to get there. Also, as you celebrate during the not so far weekend, remember not to drink and drive, choose to save a life and take a cab instead. Enjoy the rest of your week loves! πŸ™‚
